Physical therapy after birth

For moms who had a baby weeks or years ago and want to move with confidence again.

There is no wrong time to come. We look at how you move, how you breathe and how your abdomen works, and build a plan with you around your baby's schedule. You can bring your baby to the visit.

This care is for you if…

  • Your abdomen feels loose or separated after birth

  • You leak urine when you laugh, run or lift your baby

  • Your back, hip or scar hurts

  • You want to get back to exercise and do not know where to start

What we do

About an hour, alone with a physical therapist. This is what your plan can include.

  • 01

A look at your abdomen and how it works with your breathing

  • 02

Exercises for the pelvic floor and the core

  • 03

How to carry, nurse and lift without strain

  • 04

A gradual return to the exercise you choose

Good to know

  • How many visits

It depends on what we find in the exam, on how long it has been since birth and on your goals. We review it with you at every visit.

  • We bill your plan, or give you a written estimate if you pay yourself. We check your benefits before the first visit.

  • When to see your doctor first

Call your doctor first if you have a fever, heavy bleeding, a wound that opens, or leg pain with swelling. If you feel very sad or hopeless, talk to your doctor or call 988.

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, a sudden severe headache or pain, new weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or a fall with a head injury needs emergency care now. Call 911.

Questions about this care

How long after birth can I come?

Whenever you want, even if years have passed. If your doctor told you to wait, we respect that and wait with you.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes. If your baby needs to eat, sleep or be held, we pause. Choose a time that works for both of you.
