Pelvic pain and pain with sex

For people who feel pain in the pelvis, the lower abdomen or during sex.

Talking about this is not easy, and here you do not have to rush. The first visit is for listening and explaining what we find. Nothing happens without your permission, and you can ask us to stop whenever you want.

This care is for you if…

  • You feel pelvic or lower abdominal pain that does not go away

  • It hurts during sex or when using a tampon

  • You feel constant tension in your pelvis or hip

  • You want to understand what is going on before deciding what to do

What we do

About an hour, alone with a physical therapist. This is what your plan can include.

  • 01

Listening to your story at your pace

  • 02

Breathing and relaxing the pelvic floor

  • 03

Gentle hands-on work, only if you agree

  • 04

    Exercises and habits for home

Good to know

  • How many visits

It depends on what we find in the exam, on your goals and on how your body responds. We can go slower whenever you ask.

  • We bill your plan, or give you a written estimate if you pay yourself. We check your benefits before the first visit.

  • When to see your doctor first

See your doctor first if the pain is sudden and severe, if you have a fever, bleeding outside your period or a foul-smelling discharge, or if you think you may be pregnant.

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, a sudden severe headache or pain, new weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or a fall with a head injury needs emergency care now. Call 911.

Only if you agree and it helps your plan of care. We explain what it is and what it is for first, and you decide. You can say no or ask us to stop at any moment. Much of the work is with clothes on, with breathing and with movement.

Will it hurt?

We work within what you can tolerate. You can ask us to stop or change something at any moment.
