Physical therapy during pregnancy

For pregnant women who want to move more comfortably and get ready for birth and the months after.

We work with you and with your doctor or midwife. You learn to breathe, to move your pelvis and to look after your back while your body changes. A visit takes about an hour, is with one therapist, and you decide what we do.

This care is for you if…

  • Your low back, hip or pelvis bothers you when you walk or sleep

  • You want to learn to relax your pelvic floor before birth

  • You leak urine when you cough or sneeze

  • You want to know which exercises you can do at each stage

What we do

About an hour, alone with a physical therapist. This is what your plan can include.

  • 01

Breathing and managing pressure in the abdomen

  • 02

Exercises for the back, hips and pelvis

  • 03

    Positions and relaxation for birth

  • 04

A home plan that fits your day

Good to know

  • How many visits

It depends on what we find in the exam, on your goals and on how far along you are. We talk it through at the first visit.

  • We bill your plan, or give you a written estimate if you pay yourself. We check your benefits before the first visit.

  • When to see your doctor first

Call your doctor or midwife first if you have bleeding, fluid leaking, contractions too early or you notice your baby moving less.

  • Chest pain, trouble breathing, a sudden severe headache or pain, new weakness or numbness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or a fall with a head injury needs emergency care now. Call 911.
